Fungi Foraging
What a gorgeous day for a walk in the woods around RSPB Ynyshir as part of a Fungi Foray. Gorgeous blue skies, no wind and a bit of a nip in the air. Apparently we were a little late in the season for many of the edible mushrooms and some of the ones we found were a little past it but we did find some that we could eat.
We found:
- Hen of the Woods (Grifola frondosa)
- Beefsteak Mushroom (Fistulina Hepatica)
- Wood Blewits (Lepista Nuda)
- and lots of little brown mushrooms that weren’t edible
Once back at the visitor centre we fried them up along with some Winter Chanterelles (Craterellus tubaeformis)Â that our guide Daniel from Fungi Forays brought with him. The wood blewits were my favourite and I think I can probably identify them on my own too!
