Moth Trapping in Ceredigion
The weather looked good for moth-trapping yesterday and as things seem to be hotting up in the moth world, we put the trap out again.
It wasn’t a great catch, but there were two new species for the garden which is all good for the learning process. Of course, as this is my first year moth-trapping then almost everything is new to me!
- Clouded Drab
- Hebrew Character
The complete catch was:
- Early Grey x3
- Mottled Grey x2
- Clouded Drab x1*
- Hebrew Character x1*
I have a moth meeting to go to on Saturday as well, so its good for me to be getting my eye in and learning what moths are about at the moment. The meeting is being arranged by the Ceredigion Moth Group in conjunction with Moths Count. It’s a Moths Count workshop on March 27th at Borth Youth Hostel. It’ll start at 10.30 and finish around 3.30 and is expected to cover:
- identification of some of the ‘difficult’ species, including the contents of a moth trap to be set in the YH grounds overnight
- collecting and field study techniques and equipment,
- reference books and websites
- developing the new moth recording group
- obtaining as many verified records as possible for the Moths Count database by 30 April.
It would be good if we can have plenty of people there so if you intend to come, please contact Laura Wiffen by email at [email protected]
Tea and coffee will be provided.
