ABKA Photo Competition
Morgan and I were quite successful in the recent Aberystwyth and District Beekeepers Association (ABKA) Photographic Competition. It was a fairly informal affair and just for fun, although there were prizes up for grabs.
There were three categories:
- Other Bees (Not Honey Bees)
- Inside the Hive
- Beekeepers
You were allowed to enter one photo per category. I had loads of photos of other bees, but only a few from inside the hive and none of beekeepers so only entered the first two categories and choosing one for the Other Bees out of quite a few that I liked was difficult. Anna entered all but the ‘Other Bees’ category and Morgan had photos for all three categories. All photos were judged and rated, the scores calculated and then the prizes were given out.
I got 1st prize for my ‘Inside the Hive’ photo and 2nd prize for the ‘Other Bees’ category whereas Morgan got 3rd prize for his ‘Other Bee Species’ Category.

Congrats! Very sharp focus on the bumbles, which are hard to photograph as they move about surprisingly quickly for such big fuzzy bees.
