Busy Bank Holiday
Seeing as we didn’t have a huge amount planned for the Bank Holiday weekend and were simply staying at home we seemed to pack quite a bit in.
Triathlon Training and Animations on the Big Screen
Saturday started with a bike ride for me, just a quick ride towards Machynlleth, a quick blast around the Glandyfi 10 Time Trial course followed by a ride home. We then had lunch and headed into Aberystwyth to watch Morgan’s animation on the Big Screen in the Arts Centre cinema. Morgan has been going to Animation Club each week where they have been making their own animated movies. In order to show them off they have been showing them at the start of a number of films at the Arts Centre. We were given a free adult and child ticket – well free if you ignore the fact that it costs around £70 a term for Morgan to go to animation club!
There was quite a wide variety of animations and only a short clip of Morgan’s but I don’t think he’s made a huge amount yet. We the got to see Captain America, Winter Soldier as well. Although it was in 3D so I ended up listening to most of it rather than watching it as 3D movies make me travel sick, and the film itself went on a bit.
After a quick shop for some supplies to treat ourselves to a meal from thespicery.com it was back home for a lazy evening.
Triathlon Training, Dyfi Enduro, Garden Lights, a Spicy Feast and Nighttime Beekeeping
Sunday started with my usual run, swim and bacon sandwich in Machynlleth. I drove in early while Anna an Morgan caught the train in later. We then watched the start of the Dyfi Enduro before taking Morgan to Junior Triathlon Training. It was a bike and run session for him.
The afternoon was quite busy though with a bee inspection, a few hours installing lights in the garden, lots of cooking of a delicious, but quite hot jerk chicken recipe from thespicery.com followed by a lovely sticky ginger cake.
- Spicy Dinner
- Ginger Cakes
- Jerk Chicken
- Chunky Salsa and HOT Sauce
It was then time for some undercover beekeeping. We seem to do lots of beekeeping in the dark, today’s mission was to move our weaker colony to a new apiary about 5 miles away in Llandre. We’re hoping it will be more sheltered for the bees here and they will bee surrounded by lots of lovely flowers.
Leri River Crossings
Monday was a good day. Cloudy as far as the weather was concerned, but dry and fairly warm. After a couple of hours on the bike we headed out to hide some geocaches. Whilst on a walk from Talybont to Borth with the Scouts on Friday we came up with a new idea for a series of caches at bridges over the River Leri. It took most of the day to hide them, with a pause for a very nice lunch at Poppy’s in Newmans Garden Centre, but it was good fun and should add to the number of caches in the area. Hopefully they’ll take people to places they’ve never been before as well.
Not a bad weekend, it’s just a shame we have to go back to school / work.
