Italy Day 5 – Urbino
Today started with me feeling a little ill. I decided to ride anyway and hoped I’d feel better once I got going. The plan today was to head to Urbino. Bruce joined Chris and I, and our guide was Gianmaria once again.
There were a few decent climbs on the way out and I attacked them as usual, working hard on the way up and taking things a little easier on the descents. We made good progress through the Italian landscape, stopping briefly at the tops of the hills to regroup and making a water stop in Tavoleto before continuing on to Urbino.
Urbino
Urbino is an impressive walled city and a World Heritage Site. We stopped to take some photos from a fortress on a hill overlooking the old city.

We met up with some other groups from the hotel within the ancient city walls and stopped in the square for coffee. There were plenty of tourists around. I was feeling worse than before so couldn’t make the most of the amazing cakes on offer.

Gianmaria did his best Peter Sagan impression as he one-handed wheelied up over the steep cobbled street and under the archway out of Urbino. I felt sick all the way back but somehow was still riding OK. We stopped briefly at a viewpoint overlooking Riccione on the Panoramica Road and then rolled back to the hotel.
I was feeling even worse by now so cut back on eating during my afternoon snack, and during dinner. No wine for me either and despite the ibuprofen I gradually felt worse throughout the day.
It was still a good ride though through the amazing Italian scenery in gorgeous weather.
