Lines in the Estuary
Anna keeps telling me that I need to just accept that I’m getting older and embrace it – but where’s the fun in that?
It’s much more fun to don a rubber suit, strap myself to several thousand pounds’ worth of carbon fibre and monofilm, and draw some lines on the water!!
It’s been blowing a hoolie all week with wall-to-wall sunshine, but I’ve been stuck at work every day. Today was my day off and my first chance to get out. You’ve guessed it—the sun didn’t make an appearance, and the wind was lighter than it has been. To be honest, that was probably a good thing, as it meant I could have a fairly relaxed session on a small board and a 5.0m sail. Probably better than being maxed out on tiny kit and thrown around all over the place.
It turned out all right in the end. There was no one else around, but I was well-powered the whole time and able to blast back and forth to my heart’s content.
Mind you, now that I’m back home, I might need a little lie-down. Where did I put my slippers? And, of course, the sun is coming out now. We might even get another one of those stunning sunsets we’ve been having all week. With the lights around the pergola and the fronds of the palm tree silhouetted against the sky, it’s been looking almost tropical. Maybe getting older isn’t so bad after all—especially with a view like this.
I found your site while searching windsurfing stuff at Ynyslas / Borth. We’ve rented a house on the beach at Ynyslas over the May b/holiday weekend (02-05 May) so perhaps see you in the estuary or on the sea (old green Mercedes estate, S2Maui sails).
Yours,
Alastair
Cool, I’ll be around so, if there’s wind I’ll hopefully meet you on the beach.
Al.
Splendid. Fingers crossed for wind…
