New Doors—Finally!

New interior doors for the house might not be the most exciting home improvement, but after waiting over 20 years, they feel pretty special to us!

We never liked the old ones from the day they were installed. Back then, we were young, building our first house, and not really sure what we were doing—so we said nothing and just lived with them. They were horrible: dark wood, featureless, and totally uninspiring.

After 23 years of putting up with them, we finally took the plunge and ordered new oak doors. For such a small house, we were surprised by just how many we needed—each in different shapes and sizes. By the time we factored in all the handles, hinges, and fittings, we were looking at nearly £2,000 worth of doors. Add another £1,000 for fitting, and it wasn’t exactly a cheap upgrade. No wonder we didn’t go for them when we first built the house and were scrimping and saving just to make it habitable!

It’s a lot of money to spend on something that, in theory, makes no real difference to our lives. They still do the same job as the old ones—they just look better. Actually, that’s not entirely true. The glazed doors between the living room and dining room let in more light and open up the space beautifully. The half-glazed kitchen doors brighten up the hall. And, best of all, the bathroom door now has a working lock! (The old one broke years ago, and we just put up with it.)

So, after 23 years of living with doors we hated, we finally have ones we love. And if you come to visit, you can now use the bathroom in complete privacy—what a luxury!

Looks lovely I’m assuming the bedrooms and bathroom doors are the same but with no windows!
